Heavy Metal Toxicity in Autism

Contributing to the greatest number of RECOVERED autistic children (when coupled with good nutrition), metal detoxification appears to be a major piece of the puzzle for autism. Since autistic individuals seem to lack the ability to rid themselves of heavy metal toxins (such as mercury), they may not even test positive for those toxins. Chelation therapy (to eliminate heavy metals) shows that many of these children have a toxic load, because these metals appear to "spike" during subsequent toxicology tests.

Chelation should be investigated with a health professional familiar with the quirks of mercury toxicity. Defeat Autism Now doctors, or "DAN" doctors, are proficient in treating autistic individuals safely.

Boyd Haley, PhD.

Dr. Haley received his BS in Chemistry/Physics from Franklin College in 1963. After a tour in the U.S. Army he completed his M.S. in Chemistry at the University of Idaho (1966) and his Ph.D. in Chemistry/Biochemistry at Washington State University (1971). He was an NIH Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Physiology, Yale University Medical School from 1971 to 1974. His first academic appointment was at the University of Wyoming in 1974 where he was promoted to full professor in 1983. In 1985 he was appointed as the first scientist hired in the Markey Cancer Center at the University of Kentucky with academic appointments as professor in the College of Pharmacy and in the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Kentucky Medical Center. In 1996 he was named Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Chemistry/Biochemistry there.

In this interview, Dr. Haley discusses heavy metal toxicity and the chemistry of oxidative stress, as well as a new supplement he developed, called "OSR", to treat toxicity and oxidative stress.

This interview was filmed in May, 2009 at the Autism One conference.

Michael F. Wagnitz, PhD.

Michael Wagnitz, PhD. is the senior chemist of the toxicology department (Metals Analysis unit) of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In this interview, Dr. Wagnitz discusses the levels of mercury toxicity in vaccines, fish, etc. according to parts-per-billion, as defined by the EPA and how vaccinated children received hundreds of times what the EPA considers to be toxic waste.

This interview was filmed in May, 2007 at the Autism One conference.

Dr. Richard Deth

Richard Deth, Ph.D., is a neuropharmacologist, professor of pharmacology at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts and is on the scientific advisory board of the National Autism Association. Deth has become a significant voice in the escalating controversies in autism and vaccine controversy, due to his ongoing research backing his theory that certain children are more at risk than others because they lack the normal ability to excrete neurotoxic metals.

Deth has published many studies on the role of D4 dopamine receptors in schizophrenia, autism, and ADHD, including papers on the role of thimerosal and genetics in these disorders, "Activation of methionine synthase by insulin-like growth factor-1 and dopamine: a target for neurodevelopmental toxins and Thimerosal," and "How Genetic and Environmental Factors can Synergize with Inflammation to Impair Methylation and Cause Developmental Disorders." He has also written the book, Molecular Origins of Human Attention: The Dopamine-Folate Connection.

Dr. Mark Geier and David A. Geier

Dr. Mark R. Geier, MD, PhD. and David A. Geier

Dr. Mark R. Geier, M.D., Ph.D. is a geneticist and President of the Genetic Centers of America, which for the past 23 years has offered clinical prenatal genetics services to the Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore areas. Dr. Geier has worked in the fields of molecular and cell biology and genetic engineering at the National Institutes of Health for ten years. Dr. Geier has also been a professor at The Johns Hopkins University Hospital.

David A. Geier is president of MedCon, Inc. He graduated with honors from UMBC with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in History. He has been a researcher scientist at the National Institutes of Health. He has co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed scientific/medical publications on vaccine safety, efficacy, and policy. He has addressed numerous professional meetings, and most recently co-addressed the Institute of Medicine of the United States’ National Academy of Sciences on vaccines.

In this interview, Mark & David discuss their work with treating heavy metal toxicity by first treating abnormally high testosterone levels (responsible for precocious puberty) with Lupron (prior to chelation). The
y've found that lowering testosterone, as it is known to be synergistically toxic with mercury, can help raise glutathione levels and make it easier to detoxify heavy metals. The role that testosterone plays in this offers compelling reason for why more boys have autism than girls.

Reverend Lisa Sykes

The Reverend Lisa Sykes is the mother of a recovering autistic boy (Wesley) and an ordained minister, currently serving as Pastor for the Christ United Methodist Church in Richmond, Virginia. In this interview, Rev. Sykes discusses how she came to having her son treated using the Geiers' "lupron" protocol to more effectively remove heavy metals by first lowering Wesley's abnormally high testosterone levels.

NOTE: This is a great testimonial for the protocol described by the Geiers' in their interview, as seen on this page (above).
